Five students from Ruidoso High School are busy preparing for their time on stage during the 2018 All-State Music Festival in Albuquerque this January.

Isabel Martinez, Bradley Blanco, and Morgan Chase earned spots in the small school band, with Martinez being one of only two oboe players in the entire state.

Blanco and Chase are two of the nine trombone players. The small school band consists of 89 students from small schools – with enrollment of less than 1,200 – across New Mexico.

In vocal arts, Conner Nickoli made the mixed choir and Mikaila Van Slyke made the All state treble choir. The mixed choir consists of 124 choir students from high schools across state. The treble choir has 144 female choir students from all over New Mexico.

All choir students must have their music memorized by the time they go to Albuquerque.

All-State is Jan. 10-13 at University of New Mexico. The students practice for two days before Saturday’s concerts, Jan. 13, at UNM’s Popejoy Hall.
